In healthy older adults, doing aerobic exercise before resistance training leads to a smaller increase in blood flow to the thigh muscle after lifting weights, which may reflect more efficient energy use by the muscle.

Before doing weight training, older adults who did aerobic exercise like cycling developed more tiny blood vessels in their muscles. This meant their muscles didn’t need as much blood flow during weightlifting to get the oxygen they needed—so the lower blood flow wasn’t a problem, it was a sign their muscles got better at using oxygen.
