After exercise, consuming carbohydrates and protein raises insulin and amino acid levels, which turn on Akt and mTOR proteins in muscle cells. These proteins then activate rpS6 to start building new proteins, but they do not change the activity of p70(S6K), even though p70(S6K) is normally linked to mTOR. This means the muscle starts protein production through a different route that skips p70(S6K).
