As people age, the heart muscle becomes stiffer, so it needs higher pressure to fill with blood during rest and exercise. But during exercise, the heart's pumping strength increases just enough to pull blood in efficiently, so the pressure needed to fill the heart doesn't get worse than it already was at rest. This balance stays the same no matter how old the person is.
