This study shows that athletes on low-carb high-fat diets can still perform high-intensity exercise like 800m intervals just fine, even though they have less stored carbs (glycogen) in their muscles. The researchers found these athletes burned fat at very high rates during intense exercise, challenging the old idea that you always need carbs to perform well.
