Why this might work

When muscles work hard for a long time with many repetitions, they produce more waste products like lactate and ions. These waste products build up inside the muscle cells, making the inside more crowded with molecules. Water rushes in to balance the concentration, causing the cells to swell and the muscle to get thicker.
