When a person repeatedly performs many repetitions with moderate weight, the brain and nerves connected to the dominant leg become better at activating more muscle fibers in a coordinated way during sustained effort. This improvement happens because the nervous system learns to fire muscle cells more efficiently and with less inhibition, allowing the leg to keep working longer without tiring. The same training does not produce this effect in the non-dominant leg because the nervous system does not adapt as strongly to movements it is not used to performing frequently.
