Strong Opposition
Eating walnuts or using vegetable oils instead of foods high in saturated fats can lower a type of 'lighter' bad cholesterol that's less likely to cause heart problems — but it doesn't seem to change the 'denser', more harmful type of bad cholesterol in people at risk for heart disease.

Replacing Saturated Fats with Unsaturated Fats from Walnuts or Vegetable Oils Lowers Atherogenic Lipoprotein Classes Without Increasing Lipoprotein(a)
Randomized Controlled Trial
Human
2020 Apr 1The study looked at whether swapping saturated fats for unsaturated ones from walnuts or oils changes types of 'bad' cholesterol. It found overall LDL went down, but didn’t see any change in the different sizes of LDL particles, which goes against the claim that only the larger, fluffier ones are reduced.
