When the body doesn't get enough zinc, the cells in the testes that make testosterone can't use cholesterol to produce hormones properly because the enzymes that do this job need zinc to work. This causes testosterone levels to drop sharply, even when the testes look normal and are told to make more hormone by signals from the brain.
