Why this might work

The body converts plant-based fats into EPA efficiently, but it cannot turn enough EPA into DHA, especially in the brain and heart. The liver makes some DHA, but the brain and heart cannot make it themselves and rely on getting it from the liver. Since the liver doesn't produce enough DHA to meet the demand of these organs, and the transport system doesn't deliver more, DHA levels stay the same even when EPA rises.
