When you do short bursts of hard exercise, your heart works much harder per minute than when you do easy exercise. This harder work creates more 'stretching' on the inside of your blood vessels, which signals them to stay healthy and flexible. Over time, a few minutes of hard exercise can give your blood vessels the same health benefits as much longer sessions of easy exercise, because the hard exercise delivers a bigger 'dose' of benefit in a shorter time.
