Why this might work

In brain-like tissues with the APOE4 gene, when RBFOX1 is missing, early embryonic cells keep expressing genes meant for blood and immune system development longer than they should. This extended window lets those cells become immune-like cells called microglia, which normally don't form in the brain at this stage. This only happens in APOE4 tissues, not in APOE3 tissues, because APOE4 allows the signaling pathways that drive this change to stay active.
