When liver cells take in more fatty acids, they produce more of an enzyme called GPAM, which speeds up the creation of fat molecules inside the liver. This causes more fat to build up in the liver, and the more fat that accumulates, the more GPAM is made, creating a cycle that worsens fatty liver disease.
