A systematic review could determine whether anxiety consistently precedes or follows poor sleep, depression, pain, or female sex across longitudinal studies.
A systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies tracking anxiety, sleep, depression, pain, and sex in young adults over 2+ years, using standardized measures and adjusting for socioeconomic, hormonal, and lifestyle confounders.
An RCT could test whether improving sleep or reducing pain lowers anxiety levels in young adults with elevated anxiety.
A double-blind RCT of 250 young adults with elevated anxiety (HADS-A >10) and poor sleep (PSQI >7), randomized to either a 12-week cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) program or a waitlist control, measuring changes in HADS-A, PSQI, pain scores, and depression as outcomes.
