When muscles are damaged from intense jumping and landing, proteins inside muscle cells leak out, which signals that the muscle is injured. This injury makes it harder for the muscle to generate force because the signals that tell the muscle to contract don't work as well. At the same time, the damaged muscle sends signals to the brain that make the person feel more tired, which causes the brain to send weaker signals back to the muscle. Together, these effects reduce how high a person can jump.
