Why this might work

When someone drinks isopropyl alcohol, the liver turns it into acetone, which doesn't make the blood acidic by itself. But if the person already has high levels of ketones from heavy alcohol use, the extra acetone makes the ketone levels even higher. At the same time, the liver and kidneys are damaged from long-term alcohol use and can't clear acetone or isopropyl alcohol well, so both build up in the blood. This raises the osmolar gap and pushes the blood pH down, causing severe acidosis. Removing these substances with dialysis quickly fixes the problem.
