The Claim
There is no high-quality evidence that L-citrulline supplementation alone, without exercise, improves body composition in adults.
What the research says
Not yet evaluated
We are still looking at what the research says.
These are independent scores, not a percentage. Higher-grade studies count more, so a single strong opposing study can outweigh several weaker ones.
High-quality studies have not shown that taking L-citrulline without exercising changes body composition in adults.
See the scientific wording
There is currently no high-quality evidence that L-citrulline supplementation alone, without exercise, improves body composition in adults, as the included studies all combined it with physical activity.
L-citrulline gets converted into arginine, which makes nitric oxide, but nitric oxide only changes how fat and muscle are managed when muscles are actively working. Without exercise, the body doesn't trigger the signals needed to burn fat or build muscle, so L-citrulline alone does nothing.
What the research says
1 studyThis study only looked at L-citrulline when people also exercised, and it found that fat loss happened only when both were done together. It didn’t test L-citrulline alone, so it doesn’t prove it works by itself—which matches the claim.
