The study looked at overtraining in weightlifting and found that while performance can drop temporarily, there's no strong proof it stays low for months or never gets better after rest.

The study agrees that overtraining syndrome causes a long-term drop in performance, but it does not say that an athlete can never improve their performance again after they have recovered.
