Statin drugs block the body's production of CoQ10, which is needed to make energy in muscle cells. When CoQ10 drops, muscle cells can't make enough energy, causing stress and pain. Taking CoQ10 supplements brings CoQ10 levels back up, allowing muscle cells to make energy normally again. This stops the stress that causes pain, and the more pain someone had at the start, the more energy deficit they had, so the bigger the pain drop when CoQ10 is restored.
