Aspartame binds to the CCND1 protein and prevents it from breaking down, causing too much of it to build up in ovarian cells. This excess CCND1 forces cells to move too quickly from the growth phase to the division phase, leading to uncontrolled cell multiplication. The resulting rapid cell growth increases the chance of ovarian cancer developing.
