Quantitative mapping of human hair greying and reversal in relation to life stress
The study found that gray hairs can turn dark again, and this change is linked to stress levels. It also found that gray hairs have differences in energy-related proteins, which supports the idea that stress affects hair color.
The study shows that stress causes hair to gray by damaging the stem cells that give hair its color. It doesn’t prove that reducing stress brings color back, but it does show stress makes graying worse.
