The Claim
Daily supplementation with 5 g hydrolyzed collagen and 80 mg vitamin C for 16 weeks does not significantly improve skin elasticity or hydration compared to placebo in women aged 40-65.
What the research says
Supports is higher
Support is ahead, but a single strong opposing study can change this.
These are independent scores, not a percentage. Higher-grade studies count more, so a single strong opposing study can outweigh several weaker ones.
Taking 5 grams of hydrolyzed collagen and 80 milligrams of vitamin C daily for 16 weeks does not improve skin elasticity or hydration in women aged 40-65 beyond what a placebo does.

When you take collagen and vitamin C supplements, your stomach breaks down the collagen into tiny pieces called peptides. These peptides enter your blood and reach your skin. Inside your skin, they tell the cells that make collagen to work harder and also slow down the breakdown of existing collagen. This should make the skin thicker and firmer. However, in women aged 40 to 65, this process did not make the skin more elastic or hydrated compared to a placebo.
What the research says
1 studyThe study found that taking collagen and vitamin C supplements for 4 months did not make the skin more elastic or more hydrated compared to a placebo, which matches the claim.
