When hand muscles are weaker, the body sends stronger stress signals to the brain, which tightens blood vessels and raises blood pressure. At the same time, weaker muscles produce less of a chemical that keeps blood vessels relaxed, making it harder to control blood pressure, especially in younger people whose blood vessels are more responsive to these changes.
