Why this might work

When muscles are worked to fatigue, whether with heavy or light weights, they generate either strong pulling forces or build up metabolic byproducts. Both conditions trigger the same cellular signals that tell muscle cells to build more protein and more energy-producing structures, leading to growth. The body doesn't care whether the load is heavy or light — it only responds to the total stress placed on the muscle fibers.

    This study found that lifting heavy weights with fewer reps and lifting lighter weights with more reps both made people’s muscles grow just as much — so neither method is clearly better for building muscle.
