    People who drink alcohol a lot often don’t have enough vitamin B1 (thiamine), which helps the body turn food into energy. When thiamine is low, the body makes too much lactic acid instead. This study found that heavy drinkers with very high lactic acid levels were still surviving — which is weird, but might be because their bodies are making extra lactic acid due to low thiamine.
