Why this might work

The brain's memory center, called the hippocampus, stores information. When it is large compared to the whole brain, it has extra wiring and power. This extra capacity lets the brain fix problems and bring back normal memory. When the memory center is small, there is no extra capacity, so the brain cannot fix itself and memory gets worse, leading to dementia.
