Why this might work

When a person stands up, blood pools in the legs, reducing the amount of blood returning to the heart and lowering blood pressure. The body detects this drop and tries to raise blood pressure by tightening blood vessels and increasing heart rate. In older adults with a history of falls, this response is too slow or too weak, so blood flow to the brain drops too much for too long, causing dizziness and loss of balance that leads to a fall.
