When a trained person does a lot of heavy lifting and eats a lot of protein, their muscles sense the strain and activate growth signals, while the protein provides building blocks that tell the body to make more muscle and burn fat instead of storing it. The body uses stored fat as fuel so it doesn't break down muscle, and the extra protein raises energy use so more fat gets burned. This lets muscle grow and fat shrink at the same time.
