Strong Support
If baby zebrafish have too much of a stress hormone early in life, they might not react as strongly to stress later on — like their stress system gets 'numb' and stays that way.

Optogenetic induction of chronic glucocorticoid exposure in early‐life leads to blunted stress‐response in larval zebrafish
Cross-Sectional Study
Animal
2024 JunThe study used light to turn on cortisol production in baby zebrafish and found that this made their stress response weaker, and the effect lasted as they grew. This supports the idea that too much stress hormone early in life can dull the stress system long-term.
