What the research says
Supports is higher
Support is ahead, but a single strong opposing study can change this.
These are independent scores, not a percentage. Higher-grade studies count more, so a single strong opposing study can outweigh several weaker ones.
Female college students using high-protein diets for weight loss eat more animal protein and protein supplements than those using other weight-loss methods, and dairy consumption is low in all groups.

Female college students who use high-protein diets for weight loss consume significantly more animal protein and protein supplements than those using other weight-loss methods, while dairy intake remains low across all groups.
When someone eats a lot of meat and protein supplements, their body breaks down these proteins and produces acid. To neutralize this acid, the body pulls calcium from bones into the blood. The kidneys then flush out this extra calcium through urine. If the person doesn't eat enough dairy or other calcium-rich foods, the bones don't get the calcium back, so they become weaker over time.
What the research says
1 studyYoung women who tried high-protein diets to lose weight ate more meat and protein shakes and still didn’t drink enough milk or eat dairy — and even women not on high-protein diets didn’t eat much dairy either.
