Prolonged (48-hour) modest hyperinsulinemia decreases nocturnal heart rate variability and attenuates the nocturnal decrease in blood pressure in lean, normotensive humans.
This study showed that when healthy young people got a lot of insulin, their heart rate and blood pressure changed at night. It doesn't prove insulin causes heart problems, but it does show a clear connection between high insulin and how the heart behaves in the short term.
