Repeated aerobic exercise increases blood flow through arteries, which stretches the inner lining of blood vessels. This stretch triggers the lining to produce more nitric oxide, a chemical that tells the muscle around the vessels to relax. As the vessels widen, resistance to blood flow drops, and blood pressure falls. This effect lasts throughout the day and night.
What the research says
3 studiesThe study found that isometric exercise only lowered blood pressure by about 2.3 points on average — much less than the 8 points claimed — and the result wasn't even sure enough to trust. It also didn't test aerobic exercise at all.

The study found that biking lowered blood pressure as claimed, but squeezing a handgrip didn’t lower it at all — it actually made nighttime blood pressure worse. So the claim that both exercises lower blood pressure is wrong.
