When you're very fat, your arms and legs lose fat faster than your belly, but once you get leaner, your belly starts losing fat faster too.
Scientific Claim
At higher body fat percentages (>30%), fat loss occurs more rapidly in extremities (arms, legs, hips) than in the abdomen; abdominal fat loss accelerates once body fat drops below 25%.
Original Statement
“So we plotted the data to show the rate of fat loss from different body parts as you get leaner with the belly here in red. Now the flatter the line, the slower the rate of fat loss. So at higher body fat levels, notice how fat quickly drops off from the arms, the legs, and the hips, while fat in the belly remains much higher. But right around 30% body fat, belly fat actually starts to nose dive and the other areas flatline. And by the time you get to 25%, the belly is no longer fatter than other areas and continues progressing faster afterwards.”
