Extra glycine in the blood enters lung immune cells called macrophages and opens special channels that let chloride ions flow in. This makes the inside of the cells more negatively charged, which stops them from becoming active and releasing inflammatory signals. With less inflammation in the lungs, cancer cells cannot grow and spread as easily, leading to fewer deaths from lung tumors.
