The Claim
Among adults with chronic tinnitus, those with normal hearing (≤25 dB HL) have a 4.4-fold higher probability of achieving a clinically meaningful response (≥30% improvement in three of four outcomes) following 240 mg daily of Ginkgo biloba extract EGb 761® for 24 weeks compared to those with any degree of hearing impairment.
What the research says
Supports is higher
Support is ahead, but a single strong opposing study can change this.
These are independent scores, not a percentage. Higher-grade studies count more, so a single strong opposing study can outweigh several weaker ones.
Adults with chronic tinnitus and normal hearing are 4.4 times more likely than those with hearing loss to show a significant improvement in tinnitus symptoms after taking 240 mg of Ginkgo biloba extract daily for 24 weeks.

Among adults with chronic tinnitus, those with normal hearing (≤25 dB HL) are approximately 4.4 times more likely to achieve a clinically meaningful response (≥30% improvement in three of four outcomes) to 240 mg daily of Ginkgo biloba extract EGb 761® over 24 weeks than those with any degree of hearing impairment.
In people with normal hearing, the inner ear's sound-sensing cells stay healthy and send clear signals to the brain. When a supplement improves blood flow to the inner ear and stops nerve cells from dying, the brain's sound-processing areas can better suppress false signals that cause ringing. In people with hearing loss, the inner ear is already damaged, so the brain cannot reset its noise-filtering system even when the supplement is given.
What the research says
1 studyPeople with ringing in the ears who have normal hearing were about 4.4 times more likely to feel significantly better after taking Ginkgo biloba for six months than those with hearing loss—and the study found exactly that.
