The Claim
Daily supplementation with 150 mg of trans-resveratrol for 24 months in postmenopausal women is associated with slower cognitive decline, improved cerebrovascular function, and increased insulin sensitivity compared to no supplementation.
What the research says
Supports is higher
Support is ahead, but a single strong opposing study can change this.
These are independent scores, not a percentage. Higher-grade studies count more, so a single strong opposing study can outweigh several weaker ones.
In postmenopausal women, taking 150 mg of trans-resveratrol daily for two years is associated with less cognitive decline, better blood flow to the brain, and improved insulin sensitivity.
See the scientific wording
Daily supplementation with 150 mg of trans-resveratrol for 24 months in postmenopausal women may slow the accelerated cognitive decline associated with aging and menopause, based on observed improvements in cognition, cerebrovascular function, and insulin sensitivity.
Resveratrol activates a cellular enzyme that increases a signaling molecule in blood vessel walls, causing brain blood vessels to widen and deliver more oxygen and fuel to brain cells. At the same time, it improves how muscle and fat cells take up sugar from the blood, reducing excess insulin and allowing the brain to use energy more efficiently. Together, these changes give brain cells the energy they need to maintain thinking and memory functions.
What the research says
1 studyThis study found that taking 150 mg of resveratrol every day for two years helped older women think better, improved blood flow to their brains, and lowered their insulin levels — all things that may help slow memory loss after menopause.
