People with type 2 diabetes who ate only during an 8-hour window lowered their blood sugar—without changing their insulin levels. Their bodies managed glucose better even when insulin didn’t budge. https://fitbodyscience.com/post/bluesky/thelancetendo.bsky.social/post-3mqjxvdp?utm_source=social_reply&utm_medium=bluesky&utm_campaign=autopost
Very strong evidence
Multiple randomized or controlled trials back these claims.
Intermittent fasting may help manage blood sugar in type 2 diabetes, but it’s not a magic fix.
Other research shows that people with type 2 diabetes who tried intermittent fasting did see lower blood sugar levels and lost weight, which is promising. But in one study, even though blood sugar improved, insulin levels stayed the same—meaning we don’t yet know if their bodies became more sensitive to insulin. That’s a big gap, because better insulin use is the whole point. The evidence suggests it can help, but we’re still figuring out how and why.
It might be worth trying if you’re looking for new ways to manage blood sugar, but don’t assume it’s a cure-all—more research is needed to understand the full picture.
