This study looked at two groups of men: young and old. They measured how powerful their leg muscles were and what kind of muscle fibers they had. They saw that the older men had less power and also had fewer fast-twitch muscle fibers. But this is like a snapshot - we can't say that having fewer fast-twitch fibers causes the lower power, just that they happen together.
