People with obesity or type 2 diabetes who took a drug called tirzepatide lost a lot of weight—more when they took higher doses—and the effect lasted up to about three years.
People with obesity or type 2 diabetes who take tirzepatide are much more likely to lose a meaningful amount of weight—like 5%, 10%, or even 15% of their body weight—compared to those who don’t, and the more they take, the better the results seem to be.
People taking tirzepatide are more likely to get stomach issues like nausea, vomiting, or constipation than those on a sugar pill, especially at higher doses — but most of these side effects aren’t severe.
Tirzepatide doesn’t cause more serious health problems than a placebo in adults, even though it can cause mild stomach issues — overall, it seems safe to use for several months.
People taking higher doses of tirzepatide are more likely to stop using it because of side effects, even though it works better at those doses.
